It’s Official!

It’s Official!

After many months of planning, looking and working hard, we have finally done it - we have bought our farm!  We are very excited for the many projects this property has - some larger than others - this property has in store for us.  From the land, to the house, to the barn; it all needs a little love and a work but we don’t mind working hard for what we want.

The first time we toured this property it was easy to see how easily our vision for our future farm could fit.  We discussed at length what to do - the property was absolutely perfect, everything we had hoped for and searched for; but the house on the property was far from it.  The house had not had any upkeep or been taken care of for quite a while.  Since the moment we had first started to discuss the possibility for purchasing a large property, we really wanted somewhere we could cultivate a large garden where we could grow our vegetables; we wanted a place where we could let our pups run and play as they pleased while keeping them safe at the same time.  It was important to us to have enough property to hunt and preserve the forest around us and we wanted to be able to live comfortably in the home we had designed many months before.  Most of those things were checked off the list when we found our property! The only thing that wasn’t an exact fit was the house.  Now the house isn’t awful - it’s just not what we had in mind and not to mention it hadn’t been taken care of, let alone well cared for over the years.  EVERY aspect of the house needs work no matter how big or small it is, everything needs something. With a bit of renovation, hard work and a lot of patience and time, this house can be everything we would dream of to compliment the perfection of the property.

Onto the heart of our oasis…

The property is a dream!  It borders a major river that has minimal if any traffic; there are two creeks that run through the rolling and sometimes straight up hills, it has a small waterfall and hardwood and pine trees galore!

Upon driving into the property, there are two majestic oak trees that frame the house, the acorns they have dropped are the size of quarters; to the left is a waving field of grass that leads to the far side of the wooded wonderland.  Gazing to the right is what seems to be endless pine trees, grand in scale their fragrance floating through the breeze.  The house sits on a small portion of the wooded property, there are two trails at the edge of the backyard that lead into the heart of the woods.  We discover there are rolling hills as well as a deep gully - we trek down into the deep gully headed for the river we know is at the end.  Soon we are deep in the woods, the ground seems to want to swallow us up as we grow closer to the river, the steep sides of the hills tower over us - but soon, there it is, the river.  It’s beautiful, flowing through natural hazards that have fallen into the crisp water.  Suddenly we hear a noise to our left - we quietly sneak to our left peering around the bend of the river and there to our delight are wood ducks!  There has to be about forty of them and as we both gasp at the vast amount in addition to their beauty they spy us and all at once take to the sky.  It’s breathtaking and the Huntsman and I take the moment, watching the magnificent birds - it was in that moment we knew this was our farm.
