Crustacean Creation

When The Huntsman and I are not preparing for hunting season, gardening, creating homemade goodies, or hiking- we are probably cooking. Both of us enjoy our time in the kitchen; between our garden and what we harvest, most all of the food we consume is homemade. I stumbled upon a seafood bisque recipe, and as we discussed how we could improve it and make it ours, Andy suggested we use crawfish…and we harvest them ourselves. This is definitely a new concept for me, I had not really eaten crawfish let alone harvested them and cooked them myself! So, our adventure began!

We purchased traps for us to use and we set off to set them and try our luck. We are fortunate that we have access to private creeks to set them out and let them soak for a couple days. I must say, there is something exciting about setting out the traps and imagining the possibilities of the harvest! So we left them to soak and headed back to the house.

After a few days, we returned to check on our traps – success! We did not have a huge harvest however, there was enough to try out the seafood bisque recipe we had been wanting to try.

While The Huntsman prepared the crawfish, I prepared the bisque in my favorite cast iron Dutch oven. Finally, the bisque was ready and the crawfish were prepared – time to eat! The crawfish bisque was absolutely delicious! The crawfish meat was sweet – kind of like a lobster and this surprised me! I was expecting a more earthy taste but to the contrary, it was clean and fresh – this is a recipe we will have again. We enjoyed setting the traps then collecting our harvest, we will do this again as well too!

  1. Nice blog here! Also your website loads up very fast! What host are you using? Can I get your affiliate link to your host? I wish my website loaded up as quickly as yours lol

    1. I’ve had a few questions regarding blogging and the website; I use WordPress and while there is a learning curve, there are many tutorials that can be accessed to help! Hope this helps everyone who asked about the website!

  2. You really make it appear so easy with your presentation however I to find this matter to be really something that I believe I might never understand. It kind of feels too complex and extremely large for me. I am taking a look ahead for your subsequent submit, I will attempt to get the hold of it!

  3. Hi, I think your website might be having browser compatibility issues. When I look at your website in Firefox, it looks fine but when opening in Internet Explorer, it has some overlapping. I just wanted to give you a quick heads up! Other then that, excellent blog!
